A PDO thread lift uses absorbable sutures placed under the skin to support selected facial tissues. Learn about the procedure, its limitations and recovery before deciding whether it fits your goals.
What can a PDO thread lift address?
A thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure for selected concerns such as early facial laxity. It does not provide the same degree of correction as a surgical facelift. A consultation should establish what change is realistic for your anatomy.
How Can the PDO Thread Lift Help Me?
Threads can mechanically support tissue where they are placed. Your practitioner should explain the proposed areas, the type of threads and the expected limitations before you decide on treatment.
Concerns to discuss include:
- Early facial laxity
- Jowls and jawline definition
- Brow position
- Looseness of neck skin

Suitability
Bring photographs or a clear description of the concern you want assessed. Ask whether threads are appropriate and whether another approach would better meet your expectations.
Comparing treatment options
You can also read about BOTOX, dermal fillers and Ultherapy. These procedures serve different purposes; combining them requires an individual plan.
Patient Education
Bring your main concerns, previous treatment history and questions about cost to your consultation. Ask which options fit your goals, what the proposed course includes and when your progress would be reviewed.
How does a thread lift work?
PDO stands for polydioxanone, an absorbable suture material. Threads are inserted beneath the skin to support tissue. The surrounding response can stimulate collagen production, but the extent of improvement varies.
Possible complications include bruising, swelling, infection, persistent pain and thread extrusion. Careful technique does not eliminate these risks. Ask your practitioner how problems are assessed and managed.
What recovery should I plan for?
Swelling and bruising can affect your appearance, and healing may take weeks. Ask for written instructions covering skincare, activity, sleeping position and follow-up. Confirm which symptoms require contacting the clinic before you leave.

When should results be reviewed?
Appearance can change as swelling settles over the following weeks. Results are not guaranteed, and aging continues. Discuss when to review the outcome and whether any further treatment is appropriate; additional threads are not automatically suitable.
